The Curators’ Theatre reboots on 15 November 2024 with 3 dynamite projects in 3 kick-ass ways.
1. POST DRAMATIC TROY DISORDER (Parts 1, 2 & 3):
A boldly revisioned cycle of 3 classic, Greek plays, based on the work of Aeschylus, Euripides and friends. A trident trilogy for our time.
2. THE CURATORS’ ARTIST STUDIO:
The audience practically shares the space with the actors. But it’s an idea, a way of working together and saying what is important in contemporary arts practice. It’s performance of the heart.
3. “THE BARNEY”:
A boutique, bijou, Brisneyland kind of venue - old style – vintage in the heart of Red Hill. See the vj’s and the grease paint, smell the sweat, the ‘rare air’ and the incredible artistry of it all. It’s niche.
Since 2017, The Curators have worked with a multitude of incredible, professional Brisbane based and national artists, to bring exciting, relevant, dynamic and innovative theatre to Brisbane audiences.
During 2024 we have been dreaming, imagining and planning for new adventures in our theatre making. I am so excited to announce the performance of 3 incredibly adventurous new works (each only 60 minutes long), a trilogy of classics based on a cacophony of ancient Greek myths and legends, commencing this November 15, 2024 in our new, bijou space, “The Barney”.

Play One: POST DRAMATIC TROY DISORDER – ‘AFTER THE FALL’ dives deep into tragedy. We begin at the end of our cycle with the torrid tale of Clytemnestra, Agamemnon, Cassandra and the Ghost of Iphigenia - a reaction to Aeschylus famous play that began The Oresteia.
Through fantastic realism, physical theatre, opera, bursts of French, bespoke costuming and the live gramophone, we descend like Orpheus and Eurydice into an underworld of our own making. Does anyone make it out alive? Join our 5 marvellous performers from Friday November 15.
Play Two: POST DRAMATIC TROY DISORDER – ‘OWED TO WOMEN’ is a political play that revisions Euripides’ classic,
Women of Troy, the first peace play ever written. Kicking off 2025 (on February 21) with inspiration, guts and wild dreaming, an ensemble of 9 exceptional, female actors explores how we can manifest a better world, reacting to the terrible trauma of the Trojan heroines and aeons of intergenerational trauma. Violence begets violence and it has to stop.
Set in our world today, this production is a play of hope, including communal singing, puppetry and a bijou peace conference, where all will be welcome.

Play 3: POST DRAMATIC TROY DISORDER – ‘TO PARIS WITH LOVE’ fuses comedy, romance, the iconic worlds of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Shakespeare and 21 st century Drag.
From May 9, join our trio of artists as they make love, not war, exploring what really happened on that fateful night in Sparta, all those years ago. Like Romeo and Juliet, like Joanie and Chachi, their love story lives on until this day. With live music, song, dancing, a little whimsy and a whole lot of heart, this is “some enchanted evening”, a date night play. “Love is in the air, everywhere I look around.”
Or is it?

Bookings are currently open.
Our studio only seats 50, so book early and bring your friends. Our venue in the heart of Red Hill, ‘The Benny’ is a pop-up palace; a world of possibility in a vintage church hall, where you will be sharing the same rare air as the actors on stage, encouraging us all to travel into the magical, must have worlds that the theatre creates through our shared imagination and community.
The Curators produce work crafted by dedicated creatives who seek to push boundaries and experiment with form and style; to create theatre that inspires, provokes, tells stories, makes us think and entertains. We hope that you support our unfunded, professional independent theatre and join us in our Artist Studio journeys, where we will all come alive together - because living life “should be an awfully big adventure.”
